ICYMI: Here’s Everything That Happened at Creator’s Cafe

Selar marked International Creators Day on April 23 with the maiden edition of Creators’ Cafe, a curated in-person gathering that brought together creators, educators, and digital entrepreneurs for conversations on growth, creativity, and the business of building in the creator economy.

The event brought together members of the creator community for a day of networking, shared experiences, and insightful discussions, reflecting Selar’s continued commitment to supporting creators beyond providing monetisation tools. Creators’ Cafe is part of the company’s broader vision to foster stronger creator communities and create spaces for collaboration and learning across Africa.

Here is a recap of some of the key moments from the event.

The Sessions

Victoire, Selar’s first-ever Creator Ambassador, and Riche opened with a refreshingly honest Q&A on storytelling. It was the kind of conversation that gives you language for things you have been experiencing but could not fully name.

Chess master Tunde Onakoya also joined us, and his session left a strong impression. He was direct and grounded. The standout insight from his talk was this: know when to return to your source of inspiration before burnout catches up with you.

The Fireside Chat

One of the most memorable moments of the day was sitting down with Tolu Falode, a Christian dating coach and relationship strategist who has been on Selar since 2017. And she has made a sale every year for nearly a decade.

She talked about what has kept her going: finding a passion worth doing for free, turning it into a product people actually pay for, and then seeing early proof that made her take it seriously. She also spoke confidently about pricing, building systems that let her balance a nine-to-five with a thriving creator business.

The Reveals

We used the day to share a few things we have been quietly working on: Bookings with Selar, our new membership, and the one that generated the most conversation in the room, The Milestone Coin.

The Milestone Coin is designed to recognise creators’ growth on the platform. It comes in tiers reflecting different stages of a creator’s journey. The artists behind the design joined us for a fireside chat to walk through how it came to life, and it is fair to say the room felt every bit of it.

And Then We Had Fun

There was a Kahoot session where three creators won cash prizes. There was also food, drinks, and music. A proper celebration for a day that deserved one.

Creator’s Cafe was exactly what it was meant to be, an intimate space where creators could have honest conversations and enjoy themselves. For a first edition, it set the bar.

The next one is already in the works. Watch this space.
